Historic Haunts: Partying for Preservation will be held on November 2, 2024. This 1920's-themed event will host special events at each location - Cooley House, Layton Castle, and Masur Museum of Art on South Grand Street. Cooley House - 1925 Explore one of the last surviving examples of Prairie School residential architecture in the South by Walter Burley Griffin and Mary Mahony Griffin, while enjoying a relaxing evening at the outdoor speakeasy on the lawn. Layton Castle - 1814 Join local historian and storyteller, Lora Peppers, at the family cemetery to hear about the history and lore of the property. Head up to the historic residential level after to see the Victorian parlor, library full of 1800s books, Audubon dining room, and more! Masur Museum of Art - 1929 Stroll through an outdoor bazaar of a curated selection of talented artists and creatives showcasing their unique works, from stunning paintings and handmade crafts to innovative designs and artisanal goods. Be sure to amble through the historic Tudor estate to view the Permanent Collection and Julie Crews: I’ll Be Right With You. All proceeds will go to Cooley House, Layton Castle, and Masur Museum of Art.
