The 2026 MFA Thesis Exhibitions: More Than Enough April 7th-16, 2026 Tuesday April 7th Thesis Presentations: 5 pm, Room 103 Opening Reception: 6 pm F.J. Taylor Visual Arts Center (TVAC) The 2026 MFA Thesis Exhibitions feature works by Master of Fine Arts candidates Daija Essien and Daisy Bright. Candidates will present their thesis research at 5 pm on Tuesday, April 7th, including their creative practice, influences, and research results, followed by a Q&A session with the audience. The exhibition in the School of Design Galleries will then open at 6 pm. Daija Essien's exhibit Split to Fit examines how identity is shaped by the tension between self-understanding and the external gaze, where authenticity remains layered, conditional, and in flux. Daisy Bright’s, Anon & Onward examines her identity as a disabled woman through a constructed, immersive world that blends memory, imagination, and mixed media to challenge societal frameworks that reduce disability to limitation. Bright’s artwork responds by emphasizing emotional complexity, embodied experience, and human value beyond productivity. For more information on these artists, see: @imdeeliberate & Daiscomics.com
On the evening of April 11, 2026, the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), the Society for Studio Art Students (SSAS), and Women in Architecture (WIA), along with leaders from other academic clubs within the Louisiana Tech University School of Design, will host the fourth annual School of Design Gala. This prestigious event celebrates the exceptional creativity, dedication, and innovation demonstrated by students within the university’s Design program. The evening will commence with an exclusive donor cocktail hour from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m with a selection of house wines and cocktails. Following this intimate gathering, doors will open to students and the general public at 7:00 p.m., inviting all attendees to partake in a night of elegance and camaraderie. Drawing inspiration from the art deco period, this year’s gala embodies a unified vision of artistic excellence. Guests are encouraged to don formal black-tie attire and join us in Ruston for an unforgettable experience that honors the rich heritage of design. Proceeds from this year's gala will directly support student organizations, events, and conferences, fostering leadership and professional growth in the field of design. Notably, the funds raised will empower all participating academic organizations with pedagogical and professional opportunities, further elevating Louisiana Tech University's School of Design on the national stage.
The School of Design is thrilled to invite artists to submit work for our annual Gala Fundraiser, an evening where creativity takes center stage and art directly fuels opportunity. By donating an artwork to the gala’s silent auction, you are helping fund student scholarship, innovative programming, and transformative educational experiences for emerging designers and artists. This is more than a fundraiser—it’s a celebration! Your work will be showcased to an engaged audience of collectors, alumni, faculty, and community supporters who are passionate about the arts. Participating artists receive a discounted ticket, 50% proceeds split upon sale of work, recognition during the event and on promotional gala materials, meaningful visibility for their practice, and the satisfaction of knowing their work is making a lasting impact. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Join us in shaping an unforgettable evening that champions creativity, generosity, and the future of design. Your contribution helps ensure that the School of Design continues to inspire, challenge, and empower the next generation of creative leaders. Questions? Visit our FAQsThe goal of Legacy Strings is to provide live string music for any occasion throughout Northeast Louisiana. Maxwell and Therese recognized a need for this type of musical offering after noticing a rise in number of wedding and event spaces across our community. In today’s digital age people frequently choose to have music playing over a PA or speaker system for their event. You can see and hear almost any band, artist, Symphony, and other ensembles with the simple click of a mousepad. In the post COVID world, more and more people are choosing live music options again. Live music is trending! We play a wide variety of music; everything from Bach to Beyonce. Rock and Pop music that has been arranged to sound classical is very popular right now thanks to the “Bridgerton” series. Contemporary Worship songs are also frequent requests. If a song is requested and we do not have it in our music library, we will work our hardest to find it or have it specially arranged for the occasion. Gen X, Millennial, and Gen Z; all three generations are represented in Legacy Strings. We feel that this is something that makes our group unique as well as enjoyable. Our Legacy Strings members are: Therese Pirkey, age 37 – 1st violin – Wife and Mother, Therese is currently in Occupational Therapy school at the University of Louisiana at Monroe Maxwell Hyde, age 26- 2nd violin - Instructor and Greenhouse Laboratory Supervisor at Louisiana Tech University Sarah Bell , age 47- viola – former Orchestra Director who moved to Monroe LA from Columbia SC in May of 2025 Natalie Tellifero, age 36 – cello – Former Youth Minister who is currently an Orchestra Director with Monroe City Schools. “Being an artist has never been an option for me. Creating has always been essential to my existence.” I am a teacher to others and always a life long learner to myself. Experimenting with different forms of art and discovering the unique qualities of each, fascinates and excites me. As a Contemporary Realist artist my work includes oil, acrylic, mixed media and 3 dimensional recycled artworks. My still life paintings include chiaroscuro and old master techniques. Every subject is matter for my canvas’s. All of these influences echo and weave stories throughout my work. I have been honored to lead a life of extraordinary adventures. Co-founder of a private elementary school in Santa Fe, NM, Shakespearean Prop Master, Faux Finish Artist, Muralist and the 2007 World Posole Cooking Champion are but a few of my milestones. The greatest, are that of being a mother, grandmother, and true friend. Through these hands, heart and soul, God gifted me art.
